Linux Laptop Procrastination
In the gaps between some manic work and proposal-writing, I’ve been researching options for my next laptop – some details are at KornyLaptopQuest though as usual, that page is a bit out of date – it’s really narrowed down to either the Asus w3j (which is still largely vapourware) or the Sony sz-160, depending on how these machines turn out once actual users get to bang on the keyboards for a while.
However, the timing is getting clearer – while I want new toys now, there are a few delaying factors – I want to wait until the house is sold for one thing. And the newest core due laptops aren’t out yet – the best option isn’t due out until the end of March
. And by some strange coincidence, the next release of Ubuntu, Dapper Drake
, is due some time in April…
On the linux front, the Novell open-sourced Xgl stuff looks very pretty indeed – there are some flash movies of it in action at http://www.novell.com/linux/xglrelease/ – yet another reason to get a laptop with good 3d.
Anyway, enough procrastination, back to slaving over a hot word document …
