Steve Earle

Ok, I’m going to work backwards here – not sure I’ll catch everything up, but the most recent things are highest on my memory stack.
Steve Earle at the Prince of Wales was absolutely fabulous. A mixture of loud angry protest rock, with medium-loud angry protest country music.

Plenty of songs from recent albums, including “The Revolution Starts Now” as a call-to-arms, “Condi-Condi” as a humorous poke at Ms. Rice (who apparently is playing hard to get – never in Washington when Steve is in town) and “Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war” (can’t remember the exact title) – “the one thing in common of all people who start wars is – they don’t fight in them”. Also a couple of good oldies, Copperhead Road for the 80s fans, Guitar Town for the older folk…

No punches were pulled – Steve pointed out that Bush and Blair’s votes are in decline, but Howard is still going strong – what are we doing wrong? He also said “Australia is the country most like America that I’ve ever visited. No kidding. I saw NASCAR on tv the other night – you people are f*cked!”

Highly reccommended. He is planning to come back through Melbourne at the end of the tour – I’m tempted to see him again.
