I Hate Work
I don’t ask my superiors what my next step should be – I’m not keeping them in the loop
I do ask my superiors what my next step should be – I’m mocked because I should know
I make a perfectly legitimate phonecall in the early hours to the appropriate person, and they abuse me for calling them
I spend an hour on the phone organising a transfer, and when it happens, those on the other end deny any knowledge of it
Maybe I should just get a 9-5 Mon-Fri job as a data entry operator, or something …

Eeew. Getting blasted by your superiors when you do and when you don’t, is a familiar story. You might find that a data-entry job was no better in that respect, although you’re less likely to be doing it in the wee small hours.
So is the whole dropped-ball deny-all-knowledge thing, although mercifully in my case it’s just servers, not people.
